Here is a sub-set of photos taken during our trip to
France and Hawaii in May/June 2004. We visited France in order to attend a
astronomical workshop on comets and to be able to view the entire transit of
Venus across the disk of the Sun on June 8th. We also toured many
historical sites while in Paris and the surrounding countryside. But I
know we saw just a fraction of what can be visited in Paris alone.
After almost two weeks in France, we then flew back across
the U.S. and spent several days in Hawaii to participate in my 45th high school
reunion (Punahou) in Waikiki. Unfortunately, it was on the first evening
in Hawaii that Jean tripped and broke her left wrist. Other than emergency room
care, it was a whole week (and back home) before she was able to get surgery to
set the wrist! I made it to two of the reunion events, and Jean made one
on the first night. After that, we pretty much made use of the hotel and room
service.
We hope you enjoy the photos! They are presented
pretty much in chronological order in three parts: Paris, the Transit, and
Hawaii. All together, seventeen web pages. If you use a dial-up service, some of the
pages may take a while to download to your browser.
PART I - PARIS & THE TOURS
 |
We had an excellent hotel room at the Hotel Regina. This is the view
from the balcony looking SW over the city.
Out of the picture, but to the left and right across the street is the
Louvre Museum. We were in central Paris! |

On the second day, we visited the Versailles Apartments outside of
Paris. This view is just at the rear of the huge estate
showing just a small part of the acreage. This dates from the time
of King Louis XIV.(1643 - 1715) |
